Biofeedback

Heart Rate Variability is assessed and trained to improve nervous system balance and improve cardiovascular health. Your heart rate change over time is measured using a sensor placed on your earlobe. Before and during the sessions we will practice diaphragmatic breathing and positive affirmations.

EEG Biofeedback, also referred to as neurofeedback, is based on a learning theory called "Operant Conditioning" originally established by Thorndike in 1911 and made popular by Skinner in 1945. Operant conditioning is the theory that humans learn to increase a behavior when that behavior is rewarded or decrease a behavior when a negative event occurs alongside a specific behavior. The act of changing the behavior is voluntary because motivation is a factor. Conditions treated with this modality include anxiety, panic attacks, ADHD, sleep disturbances, and head injuries, and chronic pain. Imaging used: LORETA.

Quanitative EEGs are used in neurofeedback. An EEG is taken by placing a 19 electrode containing cap over the scalp. These 19 electrodes pick up information from the cortical region of the brain. The information obtained is analyzed and used to create a program to help the patient train their brain in a non-invasive manner whereby the brain receives feedback from either an auditory or visual stimulus and adjusts accordingly, which is known as neurofeedback or EEG biofeedback.

General Labs

Our lab services include:

Manual Therapies

I have seen a lot of good results using manual therapies to address patients' complaints. Regardless, if it is plantar fasciitis or a headache that needs to be resolved, getting treatment from a knowledgeable and intuitive practitioner is imperative to rectify the problem. One of the best compliments I have received was that I have "brains in my fingers". The manual therapy I provide is deep tissue often combined with hydrotherapy, and some Craniosacral therapy. Additionally, Kinesio tape may be applied.

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine Is centered around combining evidence based medicine practices with a person-centered medicine mentality to assess what causes are contributing to a less than optimal quality of life for the patient. A typical appointment: Patient history, Perform physical exams, Prescribe and perform lab services if needed, Interventions may include a number of modalities including: nutritional advise, botanical medicine, supplements, manual therapies, and/or HRV biofeedback

Nutritional Guidance

Nutritional advice is added into most treatment plans regardless of the age of the patient. However, I generally see children for full nutrition consultations. Together, the patient and I, come up with creative ways to improve nutritional content in the diet. Typical appointment: nutiritional history, lab work, prescribe changes in diet and exercise, provide, menus for the patient to follow, education on nutritional content and how the body responds to nutrition via the immune system and through digestion.

Supplement Guidance

My undergraduate degree was in plant biology. I find the chemistry of herb's actions fascinating and I see them act as synergist in the body helping to regulate its functions. I often make teas for my patients and very often receive good reports describing an improvement in health status and feelings of well-being.
